The Sydney Cricket Ground, or SCG, has hosted Ashes Test matches since the beginning of the Ashes legend in 1882 and its history is inextricably linked with cricket’s longest running and most sought after trophy. Consequently, there have been a significant quantity of remarkable Ashes moments at the ground, which include:

- In the 1946/47 Ashes Series, Don Bradman and opener Sid Barnes both scored 234 against England and together added 405 runs to Australia’s score. This still stands today as a Test record for the fifth wicket and for any wicket at the SCG. Unbelievably, Bradman was suffering from a gastric disorder and a strained leg at the time, which is why he came in at No 6 but was out before Barnes. Australia won both the test and the series 3-0.

- During the 1970-71 Ashes series, England fast bowler John Snow hit an Australian Terry Jenner, with a bumper. Following this Snow was manhandled by a spectator while fielding on the boundary and the crowd threw beer cans onto the field in protest. In response, English cricket captain, Ray Illingworth led his team off the field, however the English side returned after aproxumately10 minutes after being informed the Test would be forfeited if they did not resume play.  England ultimately won the Test and the series 2-0.

- Steve Waugh was likely on his last chance when it was his turn to bat on the second day of the 5th Test at the SCG during the 2002/03 Ashes series. In the preceding year Waugh had averaged just 32 runs across 11 Tests. By the last over of the day he was on the cusp of his 29th Test century, which was the Australian record at the time held by Don Bradman. Waugh then proceeded to break the record, to what may have been the loudest ovation ever heard at the SCG. England won the Test by 225 runs; however, Australia won the series 4-1.

- SCG has hosted the final text in two Ashes series sweeps or white washes, in both 2006/07 and 2013/14 during which Australia beat England 5-0
