The WACA Ground has been the home of cricket in Western Australia since the early 1890s, and has hosted Test cricket since the 1970/71 season. Despite the relatively short period the WACA Ground has hosted Test cricket, there have been some significant Ashes moments for Australia including:

- Greg Chappell’s made his star Test debut at the WACA Ground during the 1970/71 Ashes season. Although it took Chappell forty minutes to get off the mark, he hit 58 runs in an hour, partnering with Ian Redpath, who compiled the highest ashes score at the WACA Ground of 171. Chappell ended the test with 108 runs, and became only the 11th Australian to hit a century on debut. The Test ended in a draw, and England took home the Ashes with a series score of 2-0.

- Doug Walters became the first Australian player to score an Ashes century in one session since Don Bradman, during the 1974/75 Ashes series Test at the WACA Ground. Australia won both the Test, and the Ashes series 4-1.

- The second fastest century in Test history (currently the fourth fastest), was hit off 57 balls by Australian wicket keeper Adam Gilchrist, in the 3rd Test of the 2006/07 Ashes series. This record came very close to the record set by Viv Richards, who hit a hundred off 56 balls in the 1985/86 series. The prior Australian record was set in 1921/22 by Jack Gregory who hit a century off 67 balls. Seven of Gilchrist’s first nine deliveries did not score a run. Australia went on to win the series 5-0.
