Being the first Grand Slam of the year, players tend to come into the Australian Open a bit more relaxed than at other Grand Slams. Sometimes this leads to them playing shots they might be more reluctant to play at other grand slams, the most famous trick shot being the “Tweener” or between the legs shot. With the 2020 Aus Open getting closer, we take a lighter look at Aus Open history with our top 7 Tweeners and trick-shots.

Only Nick Kyrgios would casually play a Tweener staring down the defeat in the 5th set against Andreas Seppi in the 2017 2nd round. But he does. And wins the point.

Thiem hits an absolute stunner for a clean winner. You will not find a more perfect tweener (well, except maybe from Roger Federer):

Between the leg shots are rarer on the Women’s tour, but Aga Radwanska is known for playing a different brand of tennis and for her trick shot. Here she runs down and hits a spectacular tweener to win the point in the 2017 1st Round:

Of course Roger Federer makes an appearance in this list! At the 2015 Aus Open he came up against an inspired Andreas Seppi in the 2nd Round. He’d end up losing in 4 sets but not before showing a bit of Federer magic:

Japanese sensation Kei Nishikori plays a spectacular point against 5-time Aus Open finalist Andy Murray. Andy Murray will be returning to Grand Slam tennis for the first time in a year in 2020. Hopefully we’ll see plenty more tennis from him like this:

Gael Monfils and Stephane Robert put on a show for the crowd in this point, hitting tweeners, lobs, drop shots, and everything in between:

There’ll be plenty of tennis like this plus fierce competition and rivalries come January. Don’t miss out on the best tickets - click here to browse 2020 Australian Open tickets now.
