The Adelaide Crows, were formed in 1990 and made their AFL debut in the 1991 season. They played their first AFL match against Hawthorn in late March and won by 86 points.

Adelaide made in into the AFL finals for the first time in 1993, however, lost to Essendon in the preliminary final by 11 points.

In 1997, Adelaide won their first AFL Grand Final by 31 points against St Kilda, after defeating West Coast by 33 points in the first ever final held at Adelaide’s Football Park.

Adelaide also won the Grand Final the next year in 1998, defeating the Western Bulldogs convincingly by 68 points.

Remarkably, from 2001 to 2009, Adelaide qualified for the finals each year but were defeated at the elimination or semifinal stage each season. In 2001 they were beaten by Carlton in the elimination final by 68 points, in 2002 they were defeated by Collingwood by 28 points and in 2003 they made the semifinals only to be defeated by Brisbane by 42 points.

Also in 2003 then Adelaide captain Mark Ricciuto was the very first Adelaide player to win the Brownlow Medal in a three-way tie with Nathan Buckley and Adam Goodes.

In 2005 and 2006 Adelaide continued their finals run but were beaten by West Coast each year in the preliminary finals, by 16 and 10 points respectively. In 2007 they lost to Hawthorn in the elimination final by a slim margin of 3 points, and were outmatched by Collingwood in the elimination final in 2008 by 31 points and semifinal by 5 points.

The club again made the finals in 2015, beating Western Bulldogs by 7 points in the elimination final, and going on to be defeated by Hawthorn by 74 points in the semifinal.

In 2016 Adelaide also played strongly, winning their home elimination final against North Melbourne by 62 points, but were eliminated in the semifinals where they were beaten by Sydney by a margin of 36 points.
